  Participants at this ranch experience will photograph their journey through the Nebraska Sandhills' economy, culture, physical geography and historical geographic phenomena. Participants who complete the workshop will receive a $250 stipend. Three graduate credit hours are available through the University of Nebraska-Omaha. All Nebraska K-12 teachers are welcome and encouraged to attend; enrollment limited to 20 teachers. All board and room expenses are paid for by Geography Educators of Nebraska (GEON).   This course will accommodate pre-service and in-service teachers from science, technology, and environmental/social studies education, who will learn fundamentals of Geographic Information Systems (GIS), Global Positioning Systems (GPS) and Remote Sensing by designing a project in south San Francisco tidal salt marsh wetlands using data gathered in these areas.   Middle East Virtual Institute/Summer Workshop on Southwest Asia
  Omaha, NE and online
  This is a virtual institute in which teachers, once being oriented on June 23, will return to their homes and be in contact with national experts on lesson topics ranging from physical geography through economy, history and religions of the area. A $300 stipend is to be paid participants who complete a satisfactory lesson plan that can be shared with all participants, and is state and national standards-based. Lesson plan must be submitted within 60 days of the end of the institute. Graduate credit is available at the participant's cost through the University of Nebraska-Omaha. Other costs covered are two nights lodging in UNO's residence halls just one block from the classrooms. Mileage is covered for teachers who live outside the Omaha Metro Area of Douglas, Sarpy, Washington and Cass Counties in Nebraska. Application deadline: April 25, 2006.   Modern Mapmaking: Geography of Wine, Fossils, and the Untamed Missouri River
  A $250 stipend is presented to teachers who complete the requirements and three hours of graduate credit are available through Wayne State College. Teachers will learn to develop lessons from topographic maps, computer maps and GIS through "hands-on" activities. Field trips to wineries, Ashfall Fossil Beds and the Wild Missouri at Ponca, Nebraska also offered. Pre-register by June 5, 2006; enrollment limited to 20 Nebraska teachers or school officials.
