Making the Standards Work for You: Implementing Geography for Life in Your Classroom
Dear Teacher:
The National Council for Geographic Education was an active participant in the creation of Geography for Life: National Geography Standards. We believe strongly that the standards will contribute greatly to improvement of geography education, and we enourage all teachers to introduce standards-based teaching in their classroom. This pamphlet provides an introduction to Geography for Life and offers suggestions for how you can begin to use standards-based teaching in geography and related subjects in your school.
The NCGE encourages you to experiment with the ideas presented in this pamphlet and to adapt them to your own interests, teaching appraoch, and situation. If you have any questions about Geography for Life, and the teaching suggestions offered below, or if you would like additional information, please contact NCGE at the address on the back of this brochure. NCGE will be please to fill orders for copies of Geography for Life, to provide additional information on standards-based teaching, and to help you in contact with your state geography alliance, where you will be able to establish personal contact with teachers who are already using standards-based teaching strategies such as those dicussed in this brochure.
Sincerely,

Michal LeVasseur, Executive Director
