2010 Distinguished Mentor Award

The NCGE Distinguished Mentor Awards recognize college/university faculty (active or retired) whose guidance and influence is significant for students becoming professional geographers and/or classroom teachers participating in professional development programs offered through Geographic Alliances. Nominees should be senior faculty (i.e., 60 years of age or older) from a university in the United States or Canada. Two to four Distinguished Mentors are honored with special sessions at each National Conference on Geographic Education. Participants (usually three) in the special sessions honoring a Distinguished Mentor are selected from a list of former students provided by the honoree.

Paper topics focus on themes of interest to the Distinguished Mentor, and often include informal accounts of working with the honoree or reflections on his/her impact on students, teachers, or the discipline. Nominators must specifically indicate why the person is being nominated and include brief, concrete examples of the nominee's outstanding achievements.

Please submit nominations for candidates to be honored at the National Conference on Geography Education to the NCGE Central Office. If possible, we ask that you please submit all necessary materials online.

Application Instructions: Please enter the required information for the nominee and nominator.  Application information should be compiled into one file and emailed to ncge@ncge.org.  Letters should be sent electronically but may be sent separately.  See supporting documents for more details.
