A good place to start is to take one favorite lesson and revise it to include key ideas from Geography for Life. Try it in your classroom and reflect thoughtfully on what worked and what didn't. Your students might need more scaffolding. When you are successful, go on to try new lessons developed by others. Eventually, try your hand at developing new curriculum units based on Geography for Life. Use the focus questions as a personal checklist to make sure you are implementing key ideas of Geography for Life. You may need to rely on a "critical friend" for feedback also.
Reevaluate your plan periodically to measure progress. You may need to seek outside support to implement your program. Two organizations to help you in the process, the National Council for Geography Education and the network of state alliances sponsored by National Geographic Society. If you come up against difficult concepts and ideas, ask professional geographer for resources and assistance.
