Salvatore J. Natoli Dissertation Award

To encourage research in geography teaching and learning, NCGE has created the Salvatore J. Natoli Dissertation Award in Geographic Education. Salvatore "Sam" Natoli was a long-time director of educational affairs for the Association of American Geographers (AAG), and editor of special publications for NCGE.

The award recipient will be recognized during the National Conference on Geography Education in San Marcos, TX, October 4-7, 2012. One prize of $500 will be awarded. All applicants are expected to present their research at the National Conference. Entrants for this year must have completed their degrees in 2010, 2011 or early 2012.

The award is not restricted to Ph.D. dissertations in geography. Applications must include:

  •  a 15-page, double-spaced paper drawn from the dissertation, plus a 200-word abstract;

  • a cover letter that states the title of the dissertation, date of the degree, major professor's name and institution;

  • a letter from major professor testifying to relationship between the paper and the dissertation and confirming the state of the degree.

Materials must be emailed to the NCGE Central Office at awards@ncge.org. Please make "Natoli Dissertation Application" the subject heading of that email.
