Ask Me about the PASST

Dave Johnson is a Social Studies instructional consultant with 12 years of educational experience in the classroom, who serves 11 Intermediate School Districts in northern Michigan. He is the co-project manager of the PASST project. Rebecca Bush is the Social Studies Consultant at Ottawa Area Intermediate School District. Utilizing 23 years (14 as a consultant) of multiple and various roles in education. Description: There are multiple methods for assessing content in social studies; however, when it comes to addressing skills unique to social studies such as the integration of temporal and spatial thinking across time and place, most "out of the box" assessments fall extremely short of measuring higher order thinking skills in social studies. The Performance Assessments of Social Studies Thinking (PASST) Project was created in Michigan to assess, at a higher level, the deep and rigorous thinking demanded by the State's content expectations and the C3 Framework. By utilizing technology enhanced items, The PASST Project provides creative prompts to produce thoughtful and complex student responses that not only address the "what" but also the "why" and the "how."

Cost: Free for NCGE members; $20 non-members
